GMA network news producer okayed the international coverage of President “Digong” Duterte even after his camp’s constant disapproval, September 23 at the University of Santo Tomas.
Ian Simbulan of the documentary series, The Reporter’s Notebook and Imbestigador said that international media’s way of covering Duterte is “understandable” considering how much it values a president’s opinion.
“I don’t think they are trying to destabilize the government,” he said, pertaining to accusations that huge news organizations had been trying to be unfairly critical of the present administration.
“Bilang isang bansa na nabibilang sa international community, you have to make sure na ‘yong lumalabas sa bibig ng pangulo mo [ay], sobrang statesman pa rin,” he added.
He said that the international reporters should not be blamed for publishing controversial issues related to the president.
Simbulan was invited at The Metropolitan Alliance for Communication Students (MACS) seminar with the theme “#connected: One Nation for Media Education.”
Approximately a hundred UST students from the programs Bachelor of Arts in Communication Arts and Bachelor of Arts in Journalism attended the said event.
