University of Santo Tomas (UST) was elected once again as part of the new set of representatives of the Sanggunian sa Filipino (SANGFIL), September 28.
SANGFIL had their elections for new directors and it came as no surprise for Dr. Roberto Ampil, former head of the Filipino Department of UST, that the Pontifical university was again chosen as part of the council.
“Hindi naman ako nabigla sa kinalabasan ng eleksyon dahil lagi naman kapag nagkakaroon ng botohan ay lagi naman nakapronta ang UST,” he said.
Ampil also stated that the reason for UST being voted was because it has always been active when it came to talks about Filipino and ways to strengthen the teaching of the subject.
UST will still continue to do what it does, Ampil says. The university will still be on the lead of Tanggol Wika which serves to keep the 9 units of Filipino in college.
Lakbay Turo will also be on the agenda of UST as an active member of SANGFIL. It will serve as a way to conduct seminars in provinces for teachers.
The other universities to be part of the new institutions are: De La Salle University, University of the Philippines- Diliman, Far Eastern University, Philippine Normal University, University of Asia and the Pacific, and University of Baguio.
